DativVerb with preposition

bestehen in + Dativ

to consist in, to lie in

The verb bestehen in (to consist in, to lie in) always goes with the preposition in, and here in takes the Dativ (dative). The preposition in can take the Akkusativ or the Dativ — with bestehen it is the Dativ, so learn the case together with the verb. The article follows the case: der Preis → im Preis (in + dem contracts to im). To refer back to it, use darin. The question word is Worin: “Worin besteht das Problem?”
